Timpany Walton have been announced as a finalists in the service awards for the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence awards for 2010. The winner of the category will be announced at the award ceremony night on Thursday September 9th 2010.
Timpany Walton was originally established in Timaru in the 1930s, and has provided legal services to the South Canterbury region and beyond, since it’s inception. Our longest serving member, Bruce Timpany, retains a consulting position.
Richard Walton, Tony Shaw and Grant Proudfoot have each been partners in the firm for over 20 years. Alice Caird was first employed as a graduate and was our most recently appointed partner until this year, when Maarten Dirkzwager joined the partnership.
Michelle Broadhurst and Charlotte Clifford have been made associates this year. Kellie Walker and Jess Shaw complete our litigation team, while Kirsten O’Sullivan and Janyne Hooke add their skills to the conveyancing /commercial team.
Five experienced and efficient support staff complete our team.
The firm attributes much of its success to “having partners in Timpany Walton who are very business-oriented and focused” as well as fostering an encouraging a supportive atmosphere. The firm utilizes technology to differentiate itself from competitors. “Our streamlined office systems mean we can have more direct contact with our clients. We don’t use secretaries, we make our own appointments and we do our own administration tasks which make business efficient” says Judith Fitzgerald Practice Manager.
Being fully supportive of flexible working arrangements is a firm policy which has enabled the women working here to combine their professional roles with that of being young mothers. These women have a wide range of extracurricular interests, such as sports, involvement in community organizations and leisure activities such as reading and wandering out on the farm, and can claim that “Those of us with children have more than enough to do outside business hours”.
We make it a priority to educate our staff with an on-going training programme that keeps pace with changes to the law. Current emphasis is The Emission Trading Scheme. Our staff have attended seminars which equip them to provide clear and relevant information to clients.
On a social front, the firm will again be sponsoring a team in the Corpor8 Rowing fundraiser for Timaru Rowing later in the year. We were placed second last year, so the challenge is on!
Support for community projects is another arena where the firm is active. We are sponsors for the new Aquatic Centre currently under development in Timaru – an asset for the whole South Canterbury region.
The firm is proud to be a part of the South Canterbury community.
